Aluminum foils whose surface is etched and surface area is expanded are called etched foils. If dielectric membrane is formed on the surface of the etched foils by anodizing, they are called anode foils.
The expansion of the surface area in the etching process (etching factor) contributed to the smaller size of aluminum electrolytic capacitors and the anodizing process to the higher reliability of aluminum electrolytic capacitors.
Therefore, it may be no exaggeration to say that the performance of the electrode foils decides the performance of aluminum electrolytic capacitors.
